Static homes are based on caravans or are former caravans that stay in one place (they are kept on a caravan or static home site). In some cases, the wheels are removed but this is not essential, insurance is based on the fact that the home is static and will be not moving. Construction methods do vary between each static caravan, whilst many modern units are built to BS3632 standards this is not a requirement and many models confirm to the lesser BS EN 1647 standard. The location of the site of the site will have a bearing on the premium as will the construction method employed, it helps to have this information at the quote stage. The base on which the static home is located can also be insured as well as many other items ( please refer again to the list above).

Most static homes, will be located on privately run holiday parks, the park will have to have a local authority licence. A residential static home site is legally obliged to have a recognised site licence as required under the ‘Caravan Sites and Control of Development Act’ 1960.) If you are looking for a site or thinking about purchasing a static home, speak to the local authority in which the unit is located, they should be able to assist you with confirmation of registration. Once you have chosen your site and been assigned a pitch, it is usual to have to pay the owner a rent each year, this rent or fee, will go towards the site maintenance and up keep. The sites local authority licence does vary from area to area. Its fairly typical that you will not be able to stay in the property all year around although these can still be quoted on, providing, it is a recognised site.
